Legal and Ethical issues with filming

We had to be careful while creating the promotional DVD for college as there could be various issues that people can dislike such as being filmed without their permission. To solve this issue we had get anyone within the video to sign a talent release form so that they certify their permission. We also made sure that there is no issues with the video that will insult or discriminate such as racism or sexism. Our director has made sure that the footage is ok as well as check that everyone involved has signed talent release forms.

Use of Appropriate techniques

I have used various techniques for this production but mainly as an editor as i have removed the green screen from some of the footage along with Josh Boot as well as use Photoshop to produce various background images for the video for when the speech about the skills assessment is given. I, along with Jonny and Josh have also been editing the footage by using Adobe Premier to create a better by adding various sounds and effects into the video.

Satisfying the client needs

While producing the DVD we were told what the client wanted which was a promotional college DVD but we were also provided with information that had to be included as well as some that other departments would like to have in it. It is vital that we carry out what the client wants otherwise the video would be in appropriate for what the client wants so they would then be unhappy with it.

Organisation and communication skills

While producing this DVD i was fairly organised with my work as i have everything required it just wasnt all in one place at first as i had got work at home also. When it came to communication during production i would ask anyone anything i would need to know such as what shots were required for the storyboards. I would make suggestions to the director etc about something which possibly look better or have a positive effect on the footage. I also spoke to the cameramen about what shots are in the storyboards to get better footage. I worked closely with the director as he is also the editor which means we had a good understanding of what the video should look like.

Time management

While producing the DVD i have tried to organise my time based on the filming schedule. All of the Storyboards that were needed were finished for the day they were required allthough not all drawings were complete as i was unsure about what the shots should look like so i was unable to draw them. Other than that all my other work had been in on time and i met all the deadlines. I have also been staying behind in my own time to help edit the video along with Jonny to help and get the video finished.

Team and independent contributions

In the production of this dvd I have contributed to various things such as lighting, editing, concept art and have also been in the footage. As storyboard artist have drawn numerous storyboards for various shots to be used in the DVD. We only used some of the storyboards as the director wanted different shots. For the role of storyboard artist i had to speak to the director and the producer to see what shots they had in mind for the film so that they can then get what they want. I have assisted Jonny the lead editor in the editing process by creating backgrounds and helping edit the actual video as well as help him with anything that he needed. As a lighting assistant i had to help Josh Boot set up the lights, adjust the positioning and also use them while we were filming. Once we had finished filming i would then help to pack away the lights and then return them to the room. I have also been in the video in various parts such as student services along with scott craig josh boot and jonny shaw.

Day 8

We have now collected all of the required footage for our DVD. Now as one of the assistant editors i must help the other editors piece together the footage to make the finished DVD.

Filming day 7

We have filmed the skills test for which i was in the video doing the test. The footage was just a quick look at what the test is as well as some instructions of how to complete it. I just sat and pretended to complete the test to show what its like. We also filmed the footage of student services that we needed for our DVD, we did not need to use lights for this as the lighting was fine.
